“ransom and i got married several months ago in an intimate ceremony, but recently had a larger reception for more family and friends, and it was a blast! as we’re both writers, it seemed fitting to have the event at one of our favorite bookstores: the last bookstore in downtown LA. we’ve had a lot of requests for photos, so i thought i’d drop a few here. […] hugs and books!” — taherehmafi
My new favorite couple.
though eight subspecies of lion (panthera leo) are currently recognized, distinguished in part by their mane appearance, there were nine before the uongo lion (panthera leo iocularius), seen here, went extinct thanks to trophy hunters who sought out the animal for its luxurious mane. this photo by april poisson, taken in 1978 while in the eastern transvaal, is believed to be the last photograph of the animal.
i just wanted to add that uongo is swahili for not true, iocularius is latin for jokes or jest, and april poisson, or poisson d’avril, is french for april fools. ;)
I wish this was a real animal. He’s fabulous
